Mark 4:3 – Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:
Those of us who garden (and some who don’t) know that a large portion of seeds are grown, or at least started, inside. While the weather is still frosty, fragile seedlings flourish on windowsills and under heat lamps. However, there comes a time where gardeners must go out and sow in their gardens; no good gardener does one without the other.
This concept may seem simple, but it so often escapes us in our church communities. As Christ’s disciples, we are called to have the world as our garden, sowing the Word of God in every heart. However, we too often become comfortable sowing inside our churches. We care for and nourish a thriving flock and forget the hearts outside the church prepared for the Word. Our churches are lush and plush and the outside world is barren.
Jesus sowed the gospel to all and we must follow His example. Change comes one member, one believer at a time. Make it your mission to go out and sow to those around you, not just the members of your church. Who knows? The seed may fall on good ground and yield a 100 fold harvest. You won’t know until you sow.
Mark 16:15 – And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Matthew 28:19, 20 – 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
